Snakes are not terribly common and the simple way to avoid conflict is to stay away when you see one of them. Many species of snakes have skulls with many more joints than their lizard ancestors, enabling them to swallow prey much larger than their heads with their highly mobile jaws.

Snakes can get into a home or building easy by entering through cracks and gaps around doors, For snakes even very small gaps provide easy access to the indoors where they seek food such as rats and mice that may have gone ahead of them or a safe place to lay eggs.
